What this means for your pipes
Maumelle was laid out as a planned new town, and its first family moved in by the spring of 1974, in the Club Manor subdivision beside the country club's golf course. It became a first-class city in 1985. Homes went up in waves from there: about 1,600 in the 1980s, 1,400 in the 1990s and 2,700 in the 2000s. About half of the homes in the city date from 2000 or later.
Polybutylene water pipe, usually gray plastic, went into many homes built from 1978 to the mid-1990s.
Newer plumbing still wears. Faucets, toilets and shut-off valves leak in young houses as well as old ones, and fixing them is everyday work for us. Whatever the age of the house, you hear what we found before any work starts.

Billing, sewer lines and permits
Water. Central Arkansas Water serves the city. To start or stop service, or with a question about a bill, call its customer service line at (501) 372-5161.
Sewer. North Little Rock Wastewater runs the sewer here, as it does in North Little Rock. Calling the utility before a plumber can save you a bill when the stoppage turns out to be in its line. A new sewer service line needs the utility's permit, taken out by a master plumber or by a homeowner doing the work on the house they live in, and utility staff inspect the pipe before it is buried.
Permits. The city's Planning and Permits office checks plumbing work with one or more inspections, depending on the job. A homeowner who lives in the house can make most repairs, but still needs the permit. When someone else does the work, the city's advice is to make sure that company has bought the permit.

How does your pricing work?
Simple service is billed by the hour. Big jobs are priced per job, with a free estimate. That group covers replacing the sewer line or the water line, rerouting and repiping. Either way, you hear the price before work begins.
Do plumbing jobs in Maumelle need a permit?
Installs and replacements do. The city's permit list includes them, and the work gets one or more inspections. If you hire the work out, the city says to check that the company bought the permit.
