What this means for your pipes
Most of Sherwood went up after 1970. More than four in ten of today's homes went up in the 1970s and 1980s, and about one in five since 2010.
The older pockets came first. Old Sherwood, on the west side, is land the Calva family settled in 1881. In 1926 Justin Matthews laid out a subdivision in Sylvan Hills, around what are now Kellogg, Miller and Loop roads, and Sylvan Hills became part of the city in 1976. Gravel Ridge became part of the city in 2008.
Many water lines laid from 1978 to the mid-1990s are polybutylene, which is most often gray plastic.
A house from the boom years is now more than 35 years old. If a stretch of pipe in one of those houses wears out, the choice between a new section and a whole-house repipe comes down to the pipe's material and age. We check before we recommend either one, and you hear the price before we start.

Sewer numbers and permits
Sewer. The city's list of utility companies names four sewer utilities: Sherwood Sewer and Wastewater, (501) 835-4753; North Little Rock Wastewater, (501) 945-7186; Gravel Ridge Wastewater, (501) 690-3490; and Runyan Acres Wastewater, (501) 834-0473. It pays to know which one serves your street before a backup. Before any work starts, you'll know which side of the line the problem is on.
Permits. The Permits and Planning office is at 31 Shelby Road. Its plumbing permit form lists work from sinks and water heaters to water service lines, sewer replacement and gas tests. Inspections can come at the rough-in, slab and final stages, and building, electrical and HVAC work each need a permit of their own. The office answers at (501) 835-4753.

Which sewer utility do I call in Sherwood?
It depends on your address. The city lists four sewer utilities: Sherwood Sewer and Wastewater at (501) 835-4753, North Little Rock Wastewater at (501) 945-7186, Gravel Ridge Wastewater at (501) 690-3490 and Runyan Acres Wastewater at (501) 834-0473. When the clog is in your own line, clearing it is our job.
How do you handle pricing?
Simple service is billed by the hour. Big jobs are priced per job, with a free estimate. New sewer or water lines, repipes and reroutes are all big jobs. Either way, we find the cause first, and you hear the price before work starts.
Does plumbing work in Sherwood need a permit?
The city's plumbing permit form lists work from sinks and water heaters to water service lines, sewer replacements and gas tests, and an inspector checks the job. The Permits and Planning office on Shelby Road can tell you whether yours needs one.
Is Gravel Ridge part of Sherwood?
Yes. Gravel Ridge became part of Sherwood in 2008, and the city's utility list includes a separate Gravel Ridge Wastewater. We serve it like the rest of the city.
