Traditional Water Heaters

Traditional Water Heater Repair & Replacement

A traditional water heater — often called a tank water heater — is the most common type found in homes across Central Arkansas. It works by heating water in a large insulated tank and keeping it at a set temperature until you need it.

When it’s working properly, your water heater quietly provides a steady supply of hot water for showers, dishwashing, laundry, and more. But when problems strike, the inconvenience is immediate — and in some cases, urgent.

That’s where Victory Plumbing’s expert water heater services come in. Whether your unit needs a small repair or a full replacement, we make the process quick, easy, and stress-free.

Traditional Water Heater Repair And Replacement Central Arkansas

What Is a Traditional Water Heater and Why It Matters

A tank-style water heater typically consists of:

  • An insulated steel tank to store hot water
  • A heating element (electric) or gas burner (natural gas or propane models)
  • A thermostat to control temperature
  • Anode rods to reduce internal corrosion

It matters because:

  • Comfort: Hot water is essential for bathing, cooking, and cleaning.
  • Efficiency: A properly functioning unit avoids wasted energy and high bills.
  • Safety: Faulty water heaters can leak, burst, or cause scalding injuries.

Common Causes of Water Heater Problems

Even the best water heaters can run into issues over time. Common causes include:

  • Sediment buildup: Minerals in hard water settle at the bottom of the tank, reducing efficiency and damaging components.
  • Corrosion: Over time, the tank lining may rust, leading to leaks.
  • Faulty heating element or burner: These parts can fail and prevent water from heating properly.
  • Thermostat issues: Malfunctioning controls can lead to inconsistent temperatures.
  • High water pressure: Can stress the tank and lead to premature failure.
  • Aging unit: Units over 10 years old are more prone to problems and less efficient.

Signs You May Need Water Heater Repairs or Replacement

Call a professional right away if you notice:

  • No hot water or water that’s not hot enough
  • Rust-colored water from hot taps
  • Strange noises like popping, banging, or rumbling
  • Water pooling around the base of the tank
  • Fluctuating water temperatures
  • Foul-smelling hot water (often due to bacteria in the tank)
  • An increase in energy bills without increased usage

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How long does a traditional water heater last?

On average, 8 – 12 years. Proper maintenance, such as annual flushing, can extend its life.

If your unit is under 8 years old and the problem is minor (like a faulty thermostat or heating element), repairs are often worth it. Older units with major leaks or corrosion usually need replacement.

Most replacements are completed in 2 – 4 hours, including removal of the old unit and testing the new one.

It depends on household size and hot water demand:

  • 1 – 2 people: 30 – 40 gallons
  • 3 – 4 people: 40 – 50 gallons
  • 5+ people: 50 – 80 gallons

Yes. Modern units are designed with improved insulation, faster recovery times, and lower standby heat loss, saving energy and money.

Yes, Victory Plumbing services and installs both types, ensuring proper venting and code compliance for gas units.

Victory Plumbing put in a new water line. Things happen especially with older houses. They have done a great job on our house. No wonder Victory Plumbing is voted Best of The Best in Little Rock Arkansas. I can't say enough about how I appreciate them for their hard work, plus the price was very satisfying. I really like the guys that came over to do the work. I appreciate you. William

They were able to come out within just a few hours of my call. I was having an issue with my water heater, and they quickly diagnosed and resolved the problem. They even crawled into a hot attic to troubleshoot it and didn't charge me a service call—something that's unheard of these days. They could have easily told me I needed a new water heater, but instead they were honest and saved me the cost of an unnecessary replacement. It's refreshing to find a company that values honesty and integrity. I highly recommend them!

Sorry for the late comment, However, we used Victory Plumbing for the first time in January 2026. They recognized the issue of a leak immediately. Another company had been out here three times and failed to find the problem! Their next recommendation was to tear into the wall. Victory immediately saw the problem was the incorrect installation of the toilet itself by yet another company There was never a need to tear into the wall. Also, their pricing was reasonable. Also they installed a garbage disposal at the time of that visit,

They were professional and did a good job. I had multiple issues that needed attention and they addressed them all. Did the job in shortest time possible so didn't feel like they stretched out the time to bill me for more as they bill by the hour.

I had a service call yesterday, and Simon and Cody arrived on time, were professional, pleasant, efficient, and last, but not least, tidied up after themselves. It was a great experience, that I appreciate very much!

Victory Plumbing did a wonderful job installing our kitchen faucet, garbage disposal, and glass rinser. They are highly skilled and efficient. They also noticed our dishwasher was unsecure and recommended the specific brackets needed. Since we had to order the parts online, they actually came back and finished the installation for free once the items arrived! I highly recommend them and will definitely use them again.
Ben H.
Victory came out to correct a bad install of a faucet and disposal (done by a different company) and knocked it out of the park! Travis immediately found the issues and took care of them quickly. He even showed me some things unique to my faucet that I would have never guessed. Victory has made a lifetime customer! Highly recommend.

Had a water leak!! Again called Victory Plumbing( had just used them a few weeks ago for another plumbing issue) and Travis and his crew were quick to respond and determine the source or the leak. Cody and Simon were very considerate and professional as they worked to fix the problem. I appreciate their willingness to answer all my questions! I hope I have no more plumbing issues but if I do, I will use Victory Plumbing.
Tom H.
The Victory crew figured out our problem quickly! A water filter that we hadn’t thought about needed to be changed. Since that was easier than we thought it would be and went so quickly, I ask them to look at an issue with our outside faucets. They were leaking around the stems. They were as old as the house (56yrs!). We decided that replacing them was best. Parts were needed, so they picked up the parts, and had the faucets changed out in a very reasonable time. Very pleased with the service and the crew!! Will be calling again!
