What this means for your pipes
The city grew in waves. Argenta, the old downtown, was laid out in 1866, and the buildings in its historic district date from the late 1880s to the 1940s. Park Hill went up from 1922 into the 1940s. Lakewood filled in during the 1950s and 1960s, as did Indian Hills and the Ranch Estates part of Amboy.
Each era had its usual pipe. On water lines here, we find a lot of galvanized steel. From 1978 to the mid-1990s, many homes got polybutylene, a plastic water line that is most often gray.
Age shows up in the pipe. When a run of old pipe has corroded, replacing one section or repiping the house comes down to the pipe's age and material. We clear old clay and cast iron drain pipe with a jetter. In a house of any age, we look first and tell you what we found before work starts.

Water. North Little Rock's own water department merged into Central Arkansas Water in 2001, so CAW runs the water system here.
Sewer. North Little Rock Wastewater runs the public sewer. If your sewer backs up, the utility asks you to call it first, since the stoppage may be in its line rather than yours. If the trouble is in the city's part of the line, we get in touch with the city on your behalf. Work on a sewer service line needs a permit from the utility, and its inspector checks the new pipe before it is buried.
Permits. The city lists plumbing among the work that needs a permit. Work done without a permit can be stopped until it is permitted, at three times the usual fee.

Who do I call when my sewer backs up in North Little Rock?
Call North Little Rock Wastewater first, at (501) 945-7186. If the stoppage is in the utility's line, that call can save you a plumber's bill. If the problem is on your side, call us.
Do you offer free estimates?
For big jobs, yes. That means replacing a sewer line or a water line, a reroute, or a water repipe. Simple service is billed by the hour. Big jobs are priced per job, with a free estimate.
Do I need a permit for plumbing work in North Little Rock?
The city lists plumbing among the work that needs a permit, and its inspectors check the work. A sewer service line also needs a permit from North Little Rock Wastewater.
Can you come out at night or on a weekend?
No. The shop is closed nights and weekends. Call between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Do you work on businesses?
