Signs you need faucet repair or replacement
A faucet usually warns you before it fails: a drip that won't quit, water pooling around the base, or a handle that fights you. Rust at the base or repairs that keep coming back mean it may be time for a new one. We sort out which before we touch it.

How we find the cause
Should you repair or replace a faucet?
Most drips trace back to one worn part, like a cartridge, washer, or O-ring, and replacing that part is often all it takes. A cracked body, corrosion at the base, or a faucet that keeps needing repairs is when a new one makes sense. We look first, then tell you which.

What we check: the spout, the handle, the base, and the cabinet below
A wet sink isn't always the faucet's fault, so we start at the spout and work down.
The spout and the handle. A drip from the spout points to a worn cartridge or washer. Water seeping around the handle points to a worn O-ring or seal.
Under the sink. A wet cabinet can come from the supply lines, the shut-off valves, or the drain, not the faucet itself. We repair or replace a shut-off valve that has stopped closing.
The flow. Weak flow at one faucet is usually a clogged aerator or cartridge. Weak flow at every tap is a pressure question: see water line and water pressure.
Water you can't trace. A stain or soft spot away from the sink, or a water bill that jumps, is a job for leak detection.
Someone else's install. A new faucet that has leaked since the day it went in was usually put in wrong. We track down the mistake and set it right.

How we price
How much does faucet repair or installation cost?
It depends on whether the faucet is repaired or replaced, and on the sink it sits in. A price over the phone is a ballpark.
What moves the number: the part that failed, which new faucet goes in, and whether the supply lines or shut-off valves need replacing too.
Simple service is billed by the hour. Big jobs are priced per job, with a free estimate.
What is a faucet installation?
The old faucet comes out, and the new one is connected to the water supply, sealed, and lined up with the sink or countertop. Done right, it doesn't leak, wobble, or mark the counter.
What goes into a new faucet, and when one is worth it
- Supply lines. The lines from the shut-off valves to the faucet get a look on every install.
- The seal and the fit. Loose connections, poor sealing, and mismatched fittings are the usual reasons a new faucet leaks.
- Count the holes first. A single-handle faucet can cover extra sink holes with a deck plate, but a widespread two-handle faucet needs three.
- Aerators. The small screen at the tip of the spout mixes air into the water, so a lower flow still feels full.
- To code. Every install is done to plumbing code, whether it's one bathroom faucet or a full kitchen setup.
A worn finish, an outdated look, or a move to a water-efficient model are good reasons for a new faucet, even when the old one still works. Replacing every fixture in a kitchen or bathroom remodel is bathroom remodel work.
Faucet repair: drips, leaks, and weak flow
A drip from the spout, water around the handle, or a stream that's lost its strength usually traces to one worn part inside. When the faucet is worth keeping, we replace that part.
Why faucets drip, leak, and lose pressure
- Drips from the spout. A worn cartridge in a single-handle faucet, or a worn washer or seat in an older two-handle one.
- Leaks around the handle. A worn O-ring or a loose packing nut.
- Water at the base or under the sink. A loose nut, a failed seal, or a supply line starting to give.
- Weak flow. Debris or mineral buildup in the aerator or cartridge. Homes on private wells see it more often.
- Temperature that's hard to set. A worn or sticking cartridge.
- Rust or corrosion at the base. Usually a sign the faucet is near the end of its life.

Outdoor faucet repair
An outdoor faucet, or hose bib, takes weather the indoor ones never see. We repair leaking outdoor faucets and install new hose bibs.
Freezing, frost-free hose bibs, and care for every faucet
- Freezing. Water left in an outdoor faucet can freeze and split the pipe behind it. The crack often shows up in spring, when the faucet is turned on and water runs into the wall.
- Before a freeze. Disconnect the hose, and cover the faucet or close its indoor shut-off and drain it, where there is one.
- Frost-free hose bibs. The valve sits inside the warm wall, so water drains out of the part that's outdoors. They only work with the hose off.
- Care for every faucet. Check the joints and supply lines for leaks now and then, and clean the aerators every few months. Wipe finishes with a soft cloth and mild cleaner, skip harsh chemicals, and don't leave water standing around the base.
Faucet repair and installation questions
Can I install or fix a faucet myself?
Screwing on a new aerator is an easy DIY job, and a straight swap can be too if you're handy. Turn the water off first. A stuck shut-off valve, corroded connections, or a faucet that won't line up or seal is where a licensed plumber saves you from water damage.
Is a leaky faucet worth repairing, or should I replace it?
Repair it when the faucet is sound and the leak is one worn part. Replace it when the body is cracked or corroded, parts are hard to find, or it keeps leaking after repairs. Many faucets last about 15 to 20 years. We'll tell you which makes sense once we've looked.
How long does a faucet installation take?
Most take about 1 to 2 hours per faucet, depending on the faucet and how the sink is set up.
What types of faucets do you install?
Single-handle, double-handle, pull-down, touchless, and specialty faucets, for kitchens and bathrooms. We'll install one you've bought, and our go-to brands are Delta and Moen.
Do I need new supply lines for my faucet?
Not always. Supply lines in good shape can often stay. We inspect them and replace any that are worn, so they don't become the next leak.
Do new faucets use less water?
Most do. New faucets come with aerators or flow limits that cut water use without a weak stream. WaterSense-labeled bathroom faucets flow 30 percent or more below the 2.2 gallons a minute standard faucets are allowed.
Do you fix outdoor faucets?
Yes. We repair and replace outdoor faucets, frost-free hose bibs included. If one leaked after a hard freeze, have the pipe behind it checked too, since the split is often inside the wall. We open the wall to fix it, but we don't patch the wall back.
